Role Summary: The Residential Community Manager is a vibrant, live-in role focused on student engagement, community enhancement, and facility oversight within a designated residential area. This position requires individuals to serve as mentors, facilitators, and leaders, playing a pivotal role in the successful operation of the student life program. The responsibilities of the Residential Community Manager may differ based on the unique characteristics of the student population in their area. However, the following are core expectations along with additional duties specific to the assigned area.

Qualifications: A Master's degree in Student Personnel Services, Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related discipline is required, or 2-3 years of relevant experience post-bachelor's degree. Preference will be given to candidates with a background in fostering intentional residential communities, promoting student success, and supervising staff.

Position Requirements: This is a full-time, 11-month live-in position. Benefits include housing for 12 months, a semi-furnished apartment with utilities, a meal stipend, competitive salary, health benefits, and tuition remission. A valid driver's license is necessary. Evening and weekend responsibilities are part of the role.

Key Responsibilities:

1. **Supervision and Management of Residential Communities:**
  • Oversee, train, and develop a team of five to nine Resident Assistants.
  • Maintain a live-in presence within the community, working varied hours including days, weekends, and evenings.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to students, referring them to campus resources as needed.
  • Ensure a safe living environment through policy enforcement and awareness initiatives.
  • Manage the opening and closing of residence halls throughout the academic year and summer.
  • Conduct health and safety inspections, manage room changes, and oversee facility management.
  • Act as a Conduct Officer for any violations of the Code of Conduct within the area.
  • Participate in on-call duty rotations for crisis management.
2. **Program Coordination and Development:**
  • Assist Resident Assistants in creating programs that address the holistic needs of students.
  • Encourage collaboration among staff and students to develop programs that cater to the diverse needs of the residential population.
  • Manage the programming budget effectively.
  • Collaborate with supervisors and campus partners to achieve specific learning objectives.
  • Oversee the planning, execution, and evaluation of living and learning programs.
  • Utilize digital platforms to create and disseminate promotional materials for programs.
  • Assist in the application processes for living and learning programs.
  • Enhance social and academic resources within the residence halls.
  • Provide leadership to student staff by communicating program goals and university policies.
  • Maintain visibility in the residence halls through regular visits and participation in student leader programs.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with campus departments.
  • Administer the departmental programming model, including program approvals and tracking requirements.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to support the holistic development of students.
3. **Community Building Initiatives:**
  • Serve as a mentor and positive role model, embodying the Jesuit mission of Fairfield University.
  • Engage in the spiritual and religious development of students through collaboration with campus ministers.
  • Advise and train the Residential Hall Association, attending all meetings and training sessions.
  • Coordinate developmental programming that aligns with the community's vision.
  • Plan and implement late-night weekend activities for residents.
  • Manage community budgets effectively.
  • Hold students accountable for their actions within the community.
4. **Support for the Department of Student Life:**
  • Participate in student leader development and training initiatives.
  • Assist in recruitment for key student life programs.
  • Contribute to housing assignments and lottery processes.
  • Engage in committees as designated by the Director of Student Life.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.
5. **Promotion of Safe Working Conditions:**
  • Encourage the proper use of equipment and materials.
  • Report any unsafe working conditions to the supervisor immediately.
