POSITION SUMMARY:
As an integral member of the Fire & EMS Department, the Firefighter/Paramedic operates under general oversight to deliver emergency medical services and advanced firefighting operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property. This role requires adherence to established protocols and guidelines set forth by the department.

The Firefighter/Paramedic is responsible for assessing patients, providing stabilization, and ensuring safe transport to medical facilities, following the directives of physician medical directors.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

PARAMEDIC DUTIES:


Respond to a variety of medical emergencies and traumatic incidents, including inter-facility transfers from hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes.

Deliver emergency medical care at the scene, during transport, and while en route to healthcare facilities. Ensure compliance with local, regional, and state regulations regarding patient care.
Execute basic and advanced life support procedures based on certification level.

Engage in additional responsibilities related to emergency and non-emergency medical services and the development of the EMS.

Maintain readiness of vehicles and equipment at the start of each shift and after every incident, which includes thorough cleaning, disinfecting, inspecting, restocking, and performing routine maintenance.

Conduct daily inspections of the station to ensure cleanliness and sanitary living conditions.

Maintain accurate training records for recertification in accordance with NREMT standards.


FIREFIGHTER DUTIES:
Respond to fire alarms and various emergencies.
Deploy hose lines, select and operate nozzles, and direct water or foam streams onto fires.
Utilize ladders to access upper levels of structures or assist individuals in evacuating from hazardous situations.
Create ventilation openings in buildings using manual or mechanical tools.

Perform breach operations on walls, floors, or roofs to access fire-affected areas using hand tools.

Implement salvage and overhaul procedures to protect property from water and smoke damage.
Conduct victim rescues from dangerous conditions.
Participate in hazardous materials identification and ongoing training in contemporary firefighting techniques.
Execute mitigation efforts during fire and rescue incidents.
Fulfill additional duties as assigned by Fire & EMS leadership.

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Mandatory:
- Valid Driver's License
- High School Diploma/GED (Associate's Degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, or related field preferred)
- NIMS 100, 200, 700a, and 800b certifications
- State or NREMT Paramedic certification
- ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications
- Certified Firefighter I & II in the State
- Wildland Firefighter I certification within one year of hire.

Effectively collaborate and communicate with colleagues, public safety personnel, medical staff, and other emergency service providers.

Interact professionally with patients, clients, and the general public, reflecting positively on the Fire & EMS Department.

Showcase skills consistent with delivering high-quality patient care.
Lead effectively in patient care scenarios.

Engage in public relations and community education initiatives, promoting the department's interests.

Ability to lift and maneuver 50 pounds independently and 150 pounds with assistance.

Capability to navigate stairs without difficulty and endure long periods of standing or sitting.

Perform duties in extreme weather conditions and hazardous environments.
Meet the physical fitness standards established by the city.
Undergo a criminal background check and drug screening.
Adhere to departmental rules, regulations, and policies, demonstrating honesty and integrity in all actions.
Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain EMT/Paramedic and Firefighter certifications.
Prepare clear, accurate, and comprehensive reports and documentation.
