Position Overview:
This role is situated within the Department of Housing and Urban Development's Office of Inspector General, specifically in the Office of Audit.

As a Performance Auditor, your primary responsibility will be to execute both internal and external evaluations and audits of HUD programs, which are managed by HUD as well as external program participants.

Eligibility Requirements:
Applicants must fulfill all eligibility and qualification criteria by the specified closing date. It is essential to respond to all job-related inquiries in the job questionnaire.

We welcome recent graduates who have completed a qualifying Associates, Bachelors, Masters, Professional, Doctorate, Vocational, or Technical Degree or Certificate from an accredited educational institution within the last two years.


  • A Veteran who was unable to apply to the Recent Graduates Program due to military service obligations will have a full two-year eligibility period upon release or discharge from active duty. However, eligibility cannot extend beyond six years from the date of completing academic requirements. A copy of the D214 showing duration and dates of service must be submitted.

Specialized Experience Requirements:

For the GS-09 level, candidates must possess one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service.


Specialized experience is defined as:
- Conducting segments of audits;
- Preparing work papers utilizing automated auditing software;
- Collecting, analyzing, and summarizing evidence to substantiate audit conclusions;
- Identifying operational controls and recognizing weaknesses within those controls;
- Researching relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
OR

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Master's degree or a Master's or equivalent graduate degree.

Specialized Experience for GS-07 Level:

One year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service is required.


Specialized experience is defined as:
- Assisting senior auditors with segments of audits;
- Preparing work papers using automated auditing software;
- Researching relevant laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
OR

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows: One full year of graduate-level education in a related field; or Superior Academic Achievement based on a bachelor's degree demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); or grade point average (2.95/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society.

Combination of Education and Experience:

To qualify through a combination of education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, along with the percentage of completed education compared to the requirement, must equal at least 100 percent.

Only graduate-level education exceeding the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to qualify for this position.
