Communicable Disease Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated Communicable Disease Specialist to join our team at the Georgia Department of Public Health. As a key member of our epidemiology unit, you will play a vital role in preventing and controlling communicable diseases within our community.

The Ideal Candidate: To succeed in this role, you should have a strong background in public health and/or clinical experience, with a focus on epidemiology and medical aspects of communicable diseases. Your excellent communication skills will enable you to effectively work with people from various backgrounds, providing sensitive information and support as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Gather, analyze, and monitor data regarding communicable diseases, with a focus on sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
- Coordinate clinic referrals, conduct field visits, and provide patient education/counseling and partner services.
- Ensure timely implementation of disease intervention strategies to decrease disease prevalence.
- Complete documentation of all communicable disease case investigations occurring within the district.
- Collaborate with internal and external partners, utilizing strong communication skills.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or four years of outreach experience.
- Strong knowledge of communicable diseases and experience conducting disease interventions.
- Skills in patient interviewing/counseling and ability to work with people from varied backgrounds.
- Ability to perform home visits and other types of field investigations.
Salary Information: This position offers a competitive salary of $46,250 annually, plus generous benefits, including 13 paid holidays, annual and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement plans.
