Position Overview

Alcala County Pet Resort is a premier facility dedicated to dog boarding, daycare, and training. We are seeking a motivated and skilled individual for the role of Dog Trainer, offering opportunities for professional growth and independence. The trainer will implement personalized training programs for a maximum of five dogs each day, utilizing low-stress handling techniques and errorless learning strategies in accordance with LIMA best practices.

The ideal candidate will be adept at recognizing behavioral issues and suggesting ongoing training solutions. While onboarding and initial client interactions are managed by office staff and the Training Manager, your focus will be on creating and executing training plans, as well as maintaining continuous communication with clients through daily progress reports and private lessons.

  • Each work shift consists of 8 hours.
  • Full-time trainers will typically work four weekdays.
  • Starting trainers will handle three dogs along with three enrichment sessions (20-minute individual sessions with boarding dogs).
  • Experienced trainers may work with up to five dogs at a time.
  • Experience with exotic animal training is also valued.
Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct weekly meetings with the Training Manager to review training cases and plans.
  • Develop and execute training strategies based on guidelines from the Training Manager.
  • Provide one-on-one training sessions with clients to discuss progress and coach on techniques.
  • Maintain an organized schedule for client appointments and training sessions.
  • Capture and share photos and videos of clients and their dogs for promotional purposes.
  • Engage in marketing activities, such as building community partnerships and representing the company at local events.
Compensation

Starting wage is $27.00 per hour, which may vary based on experience and the number of dogs a trainer can accommodate in their schedule.

Monthly earnings can range from $1400 to $3200.

  • We offer both part-time and full-time positions.
  • Expected working hours are between 16 to 30 hours weekly.
  • Initially, the position will be part-time, with the potential to transition to full-time after a probationary period.

Qualifications

Comprehensive knowledge of canine behavior is essential, with experience ranging from puppy training to basic obedience. Experience addressing complex behavioral issues, including aggression, is preferred.

  • Professional certification is required (CCPDT or IAABC). Candidates not currently certified must be willing to obtain certification within six months of employment.
  • Experience with operant and classical conditioning, particularly positive reinforcement methods, is preferred.
  • A minimum of one year (three or more years preferred) of professional dog training experience is required, including individual training and group class instruction.
  • Comfortable working with dogs of various ages, sizes, breeds, and temperaments.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Dependable, professional, and punctual.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work during peak hours on weekdays and weekends.
  • Physical capability to lift over 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and navigate obstacles.
  • Willingness to assist with kennel and playgroup operations as needed to ensure high standards of care.
