About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Underwriter to join our National Accounts Group Benefits team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for managing the overall underwriting process for Group Life and Disability policies with 5,000 or more lives.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the pre and post-sale underwriting process for assigned business segments.
  • Develop and maintain solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Drive and participate in project work and special assignments.
  • Partner with the field to ensure delivery on service goals.
  • Quote new business opportunities and underwrite renewals.
  • Work with sales representatives and brokers on new business, renewals, and service issues.
  • Demonstrate advanced understanding of pricing elements, including risk factors, retention, and reinsurance.
  • Interface with the sales force on underwriting issues and decisions.
  • Negotiate prices and benefits with sales representatives and brokers.
  • Mentor Regional Account underwriters and other staff members.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • 5 years of Group Benefits underwriting experience.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with internal and external business partners.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to think analytically about business problems and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter with entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Solid time, organizational, and desk management skills.
  • Goal-oriented with a track record of delivering outcomes.
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win.
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
What We Offer

The Hartford offers a competitive salary range of $88,080 - $144,120, as well as a comprehensive benefits package, including remote work arrangements and opportunities for career growth and development.
