Orthopedic Registered Nurse

In your role as a Registered Nurse (RN) at Martin South Hospital, your primary responsibilities will include delivering direct nursing care, observing and documenting patient conditions, implementing and evaluating care plans, and administering medications and treatments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct nursing care in alignment with established policies and protocols. Develop and monitor patient care plans.
  • Observe, document, and communicate patient conditions as necessary.
  • Assess and record the effectiveness and timeliness of care and interventions.
  • Regularly evaluate and adjust care plans to achieve desired health outcomes.
  • Act as the primary coordinator for multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Administer prescribed medications and treatments following approved nursing protocols.
  • Execute physician and nursing orders accurately.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team to assess and plan for patient discharge needs.
  • Identify and address the educational needs of patients and their families, considering cultural and individual factors.
  • Provide relevant teaching and educational resources as needed.
  • Confirm and document patient and family comprehension of educational materials.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development through formal and informal education and clinical practice.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • Active state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) required upon hire.
  • Completion of ONS Chemo/Bio course within one year of employment if working in units where chemotherapy is administered.
  • ACLS certification required upon hire or within one year for those in Adult/Combined Emergency Departments.
  • PALS certification from AHA required upon hire or within one year for those in Emergency Departments.
  • Attendance in Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required for those in Dedicated Trauma Centers within specified timeframes.
  • Participation in the Vascular Access Registered Nurse (VARN) program and attainment of either Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification within one year of hire in PICC areas.

Work Environment:

  • Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently.
  • Must be able to perform under pressure and manage stressful situations effectively.

Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of current acute care RN experience in a hospital setting required for acute care roles.
  • Minimum of one year of current acute care RN experience and/or skilled nursing facility experience required for SNF roles.
  • Minimum of one year of current acute care RN experience and/or rehabilitation experience required for rehab roles.
  • Minimum of one year of current acute care RN experience and/or Emergency Department experience required for ED roles.
  • Licensed military RN experience will be considered.

Physical Demands:

  • Requires full body motion, including lifting and handling patients, as well as manual dexterity and coordination.
  • Involves prolonged standing and walking.
  • Requires normal vision and hearing capabilities.
  • Must be able to work in high-pressure environments and irregular hours.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids is possible.
  • Medium Work - Ability to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demands exceed those for Light Work.

  • Adhere to standard precautions and utilize personal protective equipment as required.
