Key Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the primary liaison for all legal and business matters at Black Bear, directly reporting to the CEO and the President of Production & Operations.
  • Negotiate and draft a variety of agreements including option/purchase contracts, talent agreements, and production financing arrangements for the studio's growing portfolio.
  • Collaborate with production executives to oversee the legal dimensions of production activities.
  • Engage with collection agents, guilds, and manage the formation of production entities along with associated documentation.
  • Address internal employment contracts, legal challenges, and review compensation packages for senior staff.
  • Oversee legal considerations in corporate matters, including mergers and acquisitions.
  • Evaluate booking contracts for management clients and resolve any pertinent business issues.
  • Maintain close engagement with portfolio companies and ensure effective communication across various internal teams.
  • Perform additional business affairs and legal responsibilities as necessary.
Qualifications:
  • A minimum of 8 years of legal practice within the entertainment sector, particularly focusing on independent film.
  • Exceptional negotiation and drafting capabilities paired with strong business insight.
  • Proven ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines efficiently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A collaborative mindset complemented by self-driven motivation.
