Business Affairs Executive Opportunity at Black Bear

Black Bear, a leading independent film and TV studio, is seeking a seasoned Business Affairs executive to join its Los Angeles office. The studio behind critically acclaimed films such as The Imitation Game and Mudbound, Black Bear requires a candidate with in-depth knowledge of development, production, and finance, as well as excellent negotiation and drafting skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Main point of contact for all legal and business affairs at Black Bear, reporting to the CEO and President of Production & Operations.
  • Negotiate and draft various agreements, including option/purchase agreements, shopping agreements, and production financing term sheets.
  • Oversee outside counsel on production legal matters and work with collection agents to put in place CAMAs.
  • Negotiate and draft internal employment agreements and manage any legal issues arising from same.
  • Oversee outside counsel on corporate matters, including M&A and new business initiatives.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience practicing law in the entertainment industry with a strong understanding of independent film development, production, and finance.
  • Effective negotiating ability, excellent drafting skills, strong business judgment, and unquestioned ethics.
  • Ability to work under pressure, juggle multiple assignments, and meet key deadlines with attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
