Key Responsibilities

The Emergency Department Registered Nurse employs the nursing process to assess patient needs and prioritize care. This includes planning and delegating care based on individual patient requirements, implementing therapeutic interventions, and evaluating patient responses. The nurse is expected to embody the values and mission of St. Gabriel's, reflecting its ethical and philosophical principles.

Core Job Duties

  • Administers fundamental bedside care.
  • Exhibits professionalism while managing multiple urgent tasks efficiently.
  • Conducts triage, gathers current symptoms, records vital signs, and compiles comprehensive patient histories.
  • Operates under the guidance of physicians and established protocols.
  • Prepares, administers, and documents prescribed medications accurately.
  • Facilitates Patient and Family Education.
  • Addresses basic life support needs and stabilizes patients until the attending physician is available, adhering to nursing standards.
  • Documents all care activities clearly, accurately, and promptly in the appropriate formats.
  • Ensures adequate supply levels and maintains necessary medical equipment.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
  • Current RN licensure in Minnesota.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification within the first year of employment.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification within two years of employment.
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification within two years of employment.
  • Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) may substitute for TNCC.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may substitute for ENPC.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience in emergency nursing.
  • Strong understanding of nursing principles, policies, procedures, and hospital ethics.
