Job Title: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Join the team at Penn State University as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic, responsible for the maintenance and repair of a wide range of heavy equipment, including trucks, front-end loaders, and other movable road and service equipment.

Job Summary:

The Heavy Equipment Mechanic will be responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, as well as diagnosing and troubleshooting complex problems. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical repair and maintenance, as well as excellent problem-solving skills.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on heavy equipment, including oil changes, tire rotations, and brake pad replacements.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems with heavy equipment, using a variety of diagnostic tools and techniques.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn-out parts, using a range of mechanical and technical skills.
  • Inspect and test equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and safely.
  • Record and report all maintenance and repair activities, using a variety of documentation and reporting tools.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair, preferably in a university or college setting.
  • Strong background in mechanical repair and maintenance, including knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and other complex equipment systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot complex problems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
