Maintenance Mechanic II

The Land, Buildings and Real Estate Department is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic to work under general supervision and perform maintenance duties of moderate complexity, including:
Routine maintenance tasks in one trade area with facility and a minimum of supervision.
Work within prescribed sets of procedures but may make independent choices between predefined options.
Key Responsibilities
Perform plumbing repair and/or maintenance, including repairing faucets, toilets, basins, bathtubs, hot water heaters, and reinstalling or replacing hot water heaters, toilets, sinks, garbage disposals.
Cut, bend, solder, and thread pipe, assemble small water pipe fittings, bleed hot water and steam heating systems, repair or replace thermos couples, gas control valves, heat exchangers.
Perform electrical repair and/or maintenance, including replacing electrical switches, outlets, sockets, repairing electrical hand tools/small electrical appliances, routing conduit, making electrical hook-ups.
Perform mechanical maintenance, including replacing fan and drive belts, replacing air filters, lubricating motors and fans, cleaning and maintaining motors, automotive repair and/or maintenance, troubleshooting and tagging faulty equipment for repair by journey craftsperson, adjusting gap clearances on motor intake and exhaust valves, adjusting carburetor, lubricating vehicles.
Perform swimming pool maintenance, including cleaning traps, replacing and cleaning filters, maintaining appropriate chemical levels.
Perform carpentry repair and/or maintenance, including repairing and restoring furniture, repairing door jams and stops, removing and planning doors to fit, replacing door locks, patching holes in walls and ceilings, painting interior walls, partitions, repairing or replacing chalkboard, building shelves, bookcases, replacing broken windows.
Requirements
Two years of professional work experience in the trade, including time spent as an apprentice or in vocational training or a combination of equivalent education and relevant experience.
Ability and knowledge necessary to safely and expeditiously perform maintenance duties of moderate complexity in at least one trade area.
Valid California Class C Noncommercial Driver's License.
Ability to perform heavy manual labor in all types of outside weather conditions.
May be required to work overtime, evenings and weekends, including Holidays, sometimes in inclement weather conditions.
Required to wear appropriate uniform.
May be required to wear PPE.
