About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team at Raytheon. As a key member of our Sensor Controls & Electronics Department, you will be responsible for designing and implementing FPGA-based solutions for control and/or signal processing radar applications.

As a Senior Principal Electrical Engineer, you will work closely with cross-functional project teams to determine the technical approach or solution to meet system level requirements. You will also be responsible for leading small teams and mentoring junior engineers, as well as demonstrating self-motivation with little supervision required.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in FPGA design using VHDL/Verilog, with experience working with AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or Actel/Microsemi/Microchip FPGAs. You will also have experience using synthesis tools such as Synplify, Xilinx Vivado, or Intel Quartus Pro, as well as timing closure and utilizing Chipscope / Signal Tap.

Key Responsibilities
  • Owning or contributing to the successful completion of FPGA-based designs, on time and on budget
  • Working with a team to determine the technical approach or solution to meet system level requirements
  • Leading small teams and mentoring junior engineers
  • Demonstrating self-motivation, with little supervision required
  • Designing and delivering production quality FPGA releases from initial proof of concept up to production
  • Working cooperatively with systems, hardware, software engineers, and program management to ensure product success
  • Architecting FPGA-based systems to determine parts, interfaces, and Concept of Operations (CONOPS)
  • Translating system level requirements into FPGA requirements
  • Designing and coding in VHDL for reliability and maintainability
  • Verifying designs utilizing self-checking techniques with directed and constrained random tests, while tracking functional and code coverage
  • Creating complete documentation including requirements, verification plan, and user's guides
  • Supporting internal and external technical reviews
  • Mentoring junior engineers
  • Supporting occasional domestic travel and potential international travel
Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent discipline
  • Minimum of 10 years of professional experience designing FPGAs using VHDL/Verilog
  • Experience designing and integrating with AMD/Xilinx, Intel/Altera, or Actel/Microsemi/Microchip FPGAs
  • Experience using synthesis tools: Synplify, Xilinx Vivado, or Intel Quartus Pro
  • Experience with timing closure and utilizing Chipscope / Signal Tap
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
