Position Summary:
The Biostatistics Center, part of the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University, is a prominent off-campus medical research facility located in Rockville, Maryland. The Center plays a crucial role in coordinating extensive multi-center clinical trials and epidemiological research funded by federal agencies, including the National Institutes of Health.
We are seeking a Director of Information Technology to oversee all facets of the information systems and technological requirements for our research center, which comprises over 100 faculty and research personnel. This role supports a substantial portfolio of NIH-sponsored research involving numerous external stakeholders.
The Director will collaborate with other leadership members in managing the Biostatistics Center, contributing to policy development and advising on IT-related matters. This position also includes membership in the Center's Executive and Steering Committees and serves as an ex-officio member of the Strategic Systems Development Advisory Committee.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain comprehensive knowledge of information systems, networking, security, and data center operations.
- Develop a long-term strategic plan for the organization’s information systems.
- Act as the chief architect for the organization’s IT infrastructure.
- Direct the design, development, implementation, and coordination of all information systems functions.
- Evaluate new computing technologies for potential integration.
- Establish and enforce policies and procedures for data security, protection, and disaster recovery.
- Oversee procurement and maintenance of all IT equipment and software.
- Manage the design and operation of the organization’s data center facilities.
- Supervise information systems staff, ensuring effective performance management and professional development.
- Provide technical support and guidance to staff and researchers.
- Engage in continuous professional development through seminars and workshops.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least 10 years of professional experience, or a Master’s degree with a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Educational qualifications must be completed by the start date of employment. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Preferred Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
- Extensive knowledge of various information systems, including IBM System z and Intel servers.
- In-depth understanding of operating systems such as IBM z/VM, Linux, and Microsoft Windows.
