Job Summary

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), the Critical Care Technician assists with patients' activities of daily living and plan of care. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with the healthcare team, patients, and their families or significant others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supports patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, oral care, feeding, toileting/hygiene, and assisting with mobility and transport.
  • Performs technical duties as directed by the RN, such as phlebotomy, vital signs, point-of-care testing, EKGs, and Foley catheter care.
  • Identifies and communicates changes in patient status to the RN and responds accordingly.
  • Reinforces education of patients and their families/responsible parties regarding individual care needs and safety issues.
  • Participates in Cooper patient satisfaction initiatives and goals, as well as performance improvement activities.
  • Assists in the orientation of new hires and completes annual unit-specific competencies by the specified due date.
  • Attends staff meetings to review meeting minutes and assists with admission, transfers, and discharges of patients to and from the unit.
Requirements
  • 0-2 years of experience preferred.
  • High School/GED required.
  • Successful completion of an unlicensed healthcare provider/technician program.
  • Completed at least one fundamental nursing course in an accredited RN program.
  • AHA Basic Life Support certification required.
