Job Title: Legal Associate for Latin America and the Caribbean

International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) is seeking a creative and motivated lawyer to join our team in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in law and a passion for promoting democratic freedoms in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Job Summary:

The Legal Associate will assist ICNL's Latin America and Caribbean Team in implementing regional and country programming to protect the freedoms of association, expression, and assembly. This includes drafting legal analyses, briefers, and other written materials, developing and implementing grant programs, designing trainings and initiatives, and researching cutting-edge legal issues.

Responsibilities:
  • Drafting legal analyses and briefers on regional and country-specific issues
  • Developing and implementing grant programs to support partners' law reform efforts
  • Designing trainings and initiatives to strengthen knowledge of laws affecting the freedoms of association, expression, and assembly
  • Researching cutting-edge legal issues, such as the nexus between climate change and civic freedoms or the exercise of civic freedoms in the digital age
  • Implementing program development initiatives
Requirements:
  • Law degree from an accredited school
  • Excellent research, writing, and presentation skills
  • Professional competency in English and Spanish is required (proficiency in Portuguese is an advantage)
  • At least two years of professional legal experience preferred
  • Experience working with civil society, government, or an international organization is an advantage
  • Experience with freedom of expression, freedom of peaceful assembly, or internet freedom issues is an advantage
What We Offer:

ICNL provides a dynamic and fast-paced work environment, with opportunities for professional growth and development. The projected salary range for this position is $103,529 to $119,059, and ICNL offers health insurance benefits.
