Job Summary:
As a Patrol Officer with the University of Southern Mississippi, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for our students, faculty, and staff. This position involves performing law enforcement and police department duties, including protecting life and property through the enforcement of state laws and university rules and regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Enforce federal, state, and local laws, as well as university rules and regulations.
- Respond to emergency calls involving crimes, disturbances, accidents, personal injuries, fires, and natural disasters.
- Investigate crimes and violations of university rules and regulations, accidents, etc.
- Engage with the community in proactive police activities to prevent crimes, disorder, property loss, accidents, etc.
- Provide a wide range of community services, including traffic and crowd control, security at special events, crisis intervention, referrals, escorts, motorist assistance, public information, emergency notification, and medical assistance.
Requirements:
- High School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
- Valid Mississippi Driver's License.
- Mississippi Law Enforcement Certification or graduate of a Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate's Degree and/or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
- Six months to one year of patrol officer experience with a law enforcement agency.
