This function is essential for ensuring precise budgeting and pricing in industries such as construction, manufacturing, and engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
Primary Duties:
- Conduct independent assessments of customer-provided specifications to determine the feasibility of Powell's manufacturing or supply capabilities.
- Interpret various electrical diagrams, including single-line, three-line, elevation views, control schematics, and site layouts.
- Develop accurate proposals based on thorough reviews of customer documentation.
- Identify and communicate potential application issues prior to proposal creation.
- Translate customer designs into actionable proposals.
- Enhance proposed solutions for mutual benefit.
- Draft effective comments to articulate Powell's offerings.
- Serve as a technical resource for Powell's sales team.
- Assist in technical discussions and solutions for sales initiatives.
- Evaluate subcontractor proposals to complete Powell's offerings.
- Assess risks associated with subcontractor proposals.
- Collaborate with other divisions within Powell for integrated solutions.
- Manage projects with minimal oversight.
- Potentially lead complex projects involving multiple Application Engineers.
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts, including client meetings and industry conferences.
- Contribute to initiatives aimed at cost reduction in collaboration with Engineering and Operations.
- Conduct market research as required.
- Assist in the development of new and existing product specifications.
- Prepare detailed, accurate, and competitive proposals - 90% of the role.
- Engage in customer-facing activities - 10% of the role.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical equipment estimation or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and industry standards, including IEEE/ANSI, NEC, IBC, and NFPA.
- Knowledge of low and medium voltage distribution equipment ratings and design.
- Familiarity with DC systems, UPS systems, HVAC, and pressurization concepts.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical specifications and drawings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Customer-oriented approach.
- Effective time management and prioritization abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Capability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Willingness to learn new skills and embrace new responsibilities.
- Proficiency in Visio, AutoCAD, and Inventor software.
- Competence in Microsoft Office Suite.
