Job Summary
Bristol-Myers Squibb is seeking a highly skilled Senior Separation Scientist to join our team in San Diego, CA. As a key member of our Small Molecule Separation team, you will be responsible for providing expert separation science support for our drug discovery and medicinal chemistry teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead a team of scientists to deliver non-GLP separation science support for the site, with a focus on managing a high-throughput small molecule purification service using preparative liquid chromatography (HPLC) and preparative supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC)
- Develop and implement chromatography methods for achiral and chiral separations, and provide limited on-site support for separation and physical property measurement
- Coordinate with team members at other sites to deliver capabilities not available locally, and ensure operational support of a fleet of analytical LCMS instruments used by medicinal chemists for routine reaction checking and compound QC
- Work with management to develop, implement, and update the strategic plan for separation science at the site, and identify and complete continuous improvement projects
- Participate in lab design and implement the lab's move to a newly constructed building in 2026
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Organic or Analytical Chemistry, or related field, with 8+ years of academic/industry experience, or Master's Degree with 6+ years of experience, or PhD with 4+ years of experience
- Experience in analysis and purification of small molecules and/or peptides by reverse phase HPLC and SFC, and in mass spectrometry
- Experience in a high-throughput environment managing large numbers of samples and associated data, and/or experience in organic and medicinal chemistry
- Strong written and oral communication skills, supervisory experience in a lab environment, and ability to work independently and matrix across teams
