ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION AND THE OPPORTUNITY

The Education Trust (Ed Trust) is in search of a Senior Manager of Accounting within its Finance Division. This pivotal role is essential in advancing our mission to eliminate opportunity disparities affecting students of color and those from low-income backgrounds.

The Senior Manager of Accounting is responsible for overseeing the organization's accounting operations. This position entails managing daily financial activities related to accounting and compliance, while also facilitating the monitoring, control, allocation, and utilization of financial resources. Key responsibilities include supervising all accounting functions (such as accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, contracts, and corporate credit card reconciliations), designing compliance strategies, ensuring successful audits, and collaborating with various stakeholders across the organization. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial stability of Ed Trust in alignment with our mission.

ABOUT THE SENIOR MANAGER OF ACCOUNTING ROLE

The responsibilities and objectives for this role encompass, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Collaborate with the CFO to establish the long-term vision and direction for the Accounting team, translating that vision into actionable short and long-term goals.
  • Lead a dynamic team by identifying and retaining diverse talent, coaching and developing team members, and managing performance effectively.
  • Oversee daily operations of the team, allocate resources efficiently, and support prioritization of tasks.
  • Establish internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions.
  • Supervise the general ledger, reconciliations, and month-end and annual closing schedules.
  • Monitor weekly financial activities to ensure adherence to operational policies and procedures.
  • Prepare financial statements, forecasts, and other accounting analyses in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Manage the annual audit process, including preliminary work, year-end audit engagements, audit schedules, financial statement drafts, and production of Form 990.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of accounting, tax, and legal principles.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Enhance accounting and financial policies, procedures, and systems.
  • Oversee the daily maintenance of financial information software systems.
  • Collaborate across teams on grants management, payroll, and other financial operations.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field (CPA preferred).
  • Significant experience (7+ years) in accounting, with progressively increasing levels of responsibility and supervisory experience.
  • Experience with cloud-based or other accounting software solutions that integrate timesheets, payroll, grant activities, and expense reporting.
  • Experience managing accounting functions in nonprofit organizations.
  • Expertise in grant funding activities and reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards for nonprofits, including GAAP and FAS.

COMPENSATION

This position falls within Level E of our compensation structure, with a salary range that reflects skills, experience, and internal equity.
