We are now working towards Polaris, a groundbreaking project that will demonstrate electricity generation from fusion, making this an exciting time to join Helion Energy. As a Radiation Safety Officer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe operation of our facilities and equipment.
Job SummaryWe are seeking a highly experienced Radiation Safety Officer to join our team at Helion Energy. As a key member of our Radiation Safety Program, you will be responsible for maintaining exposures to ionizing radiation as low as reasonably achievable. You will work closely with our team of health physicists to implement radiation safety measures, including regulatory compliance and license management.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement radiation safety policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular radiation surveys and monitoring to ensure safe working conditions.
- Collaborate with our health physics team to develop and implement radiation safety training programs.
- Work with regulatory bodies to obtain and maintain radiological licenses.
- Participate in the Radiation Safety Committee to oversee radiation safety work and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Eight years of experience handling greater-than-exempt quantities of radioactive material.
- Four years of experience serving as a Radiation Safety Officer or eight years serving as Chair of a Radiation Safety Committee overseeing work performed under a Broad Scope license.
- Four years of experience working with neutron sources or neutron generators.
- Four years of experience working with (or overseeing the use of) over 100 Ci of H-3 or elements 3-83 in the form of activated byproduct material resulting in contact doses exceeding 100 mrem/hr.
- Four years of experience working with an x-ray machine, accelerator, or similar apparatus requiring registration and shielding.
- Experience submitting radiological license applications and/or amendments.
- General awareness of radiological regulations in 10 CFR 20 and 10 CFR 30, which may be via equivalent state regulations.
- Competitive salary range: $194,000-$231,000 USD.
