Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional to lead our Defense and Security Program as the Director. The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out research, analysis, and strategic initiatives to address complex security challenges in the Middle East.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on defense and security issues in the Middle East, identifying key trends, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Strategic Initiatives: Develop and implement strategic initiatives to address complex security challenges in the region, working closely with the Policy Center Vice-President and other stakeholders.
  • Content Creation: Create and commission high-quality content for the Defense and Security Program, including research papers, policy briefs, and other materials.
  • Program Management: Lead the Defense and Security Program's non-resident fellows, liaise with the DSP Advisory Council, and participate in MEI panels, workshops, and conferences.
  • Communication: Write regular short commentaries for the MEI website and/or for alternative outlets, and participate in press, radio, and television media.
Qualifications
  • Education: Master's or PhD in International Relations, Political Science, Security Studies, Middle Eastern Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 7-10 years of professional experience in defense, security, international relations, or a related field, with a focus on the Middle East region.
  • Skills: Strong research and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and proficiency in Arabic or other relevant languages spoken in the Middle East.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of Middle East security dynamics, including regional conflicts, geopolitical rivalries, terrorism threats, and state fragility issues.
