Key Responsibilities

Deliver technical support for computer hardware and software within a municipal government environment.

Set up, test, and maintain computer systems, peripherals, and network infrastructure.

Diagnose and resolve issues related to computer technology; engage with users, manufacturers, and vendors regarding hardware or software concerns.

Address workstation-related problems and maintain functionality.

Manage issues related to local and wide area networking of computer workstations.

Install and configure new computers and peripherals.

Set up and maintain networking equipment, including switches and cabling.

Install software updates and new applications on municipal computers.

Stay updated on the latest advancements, practices, and programs in the technology sector.

Take initiative for professional development and ensure that materials, supplies, and skills are current.

Evaluate and recommend computer hardware and software solutions to Town personnel.

Support the execution of the Town-wide technology strategy.

Ensure access to digital records and systems utilized by staff from various sources, including databases and other information systems.

Maintain backups of digital systems.

Input data into information systems accurately.

Assist with the Town-wide records management initiative.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Candidates should possess training and experience in computer servicing. Experience in maintaining computers, peripherals, and networking devices is essential, including printers, scanners, and network-attached storage devices.


A minimum of three years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience in a computer-related field is required.


Certifications in A+, Networking, or Server technologies are preferred.


A Bachelor's Degree in an IT-related discipline is desirable but not mandatory.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Proficient in relevant software applications, including Microsoft Office 365.
  • Ability to analyze and resolve moderately complex issues.
  • Capable of interacting courteously and effectively with the public, vendors, and colleagues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Licenses or Certifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with A+, Networking, and Server Certifications.

Must possess a valid driver's license.


Compensation and Benefits:

Salary Range: $47,000 - $65,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

  • Retirement benefits through the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).

  • Accrual of 10 sick hours per month and 8 hours of annual leave per month (increases to 12 hours after five years).
