Rome Memorial Hospital is in search of a dedicated Pre-Registration Call Center Specialist. This role encompasses the comprehensive management of the pre-registration process and related tasks, including insurance verification, validation of medical necessity, collection of payments at the point of service, and providing arrival instructions to patients. The Patient Access Associate will engage in both centralized and decentralized patient registration activities across various hospital and outpatient service locations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Greet patients of all ages arriving for medical services with courtesy and empathy.
- Handle incoming calls and make outbound calls in a professional manner.
- Exhibit service excellence in every interaction with both external and internal customers, healthcare providers, and departments.
- Facilitate the creation of a pre-registration visit from a scheduled appointment through phone communication to gather necessary data in compliance with billing requirements and regulatory mandates.
- Transition patient accounts from a 'scheduled' to a 'pre-registered' status via phone discussions.
- Collect personal, financial, and statistical information from patients to establish or update their records in the hospital's electronic information system.
- Ensure that valid physician orders are available for patient services and are properly scanned into the patient encounter record.
- Record the patient's primary care provider in their medical record.
- Verify the status of insurance coverage and follow up with patients if their insurance appears inactive; update insurance details to reflect accurate coverage in the patient record.
- Complete the Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire at the time of service for all Medicare beneficiaries.
- Collaborate with surgical and specialty offices to ensure the accuracy of CPT and ICD-10 codes.
Qualifications:
- Experience in an acute care hospital, physician's office, or other healthcare agency is preferred but not mandatory.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Previous experience in 'Patient Access' or registration is preferred; CHAA/CHAM certification is a plus.
