Job Overview

Position Summary: The Shipping Coordinator is accountable for the procurement of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) supplies while overseeing the tool crib operations.


Qualifications and Experience Required:

  • Preferred post-secondary diploma in relevant fields or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in technical and commercial purchasing, particularly in the automotive sector.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • Exceptional time management and numerical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and organizational capabilities with the ability to work autonomously.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, along with outstanding customer service abilities.
  • Familiarity with ISO 14001: 2015 standards.
  • Understanding of IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Awareness of any relevant customer-specific standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the procurement of MRO materials and operational supplies.
  • Engage with vendors and suppliers to gather pricing, availability, and delivery information.
  • Facilitate timely delivery of goods to end-users.
  • Ensure adherence to 100% on-time delivery standards.
  • Contribute positively to quality, customer satisfaction, and overall company profitability.
  • Solicit bid proposals and negotiate contracts and lease agreements in alignment with budgetary constraints and corporate guidelines.
  • Adhere to protocols established by IATF 16949 and ISO 14001, as well as Martinrea Purchasing Policies and Procedures.
  • Address supplier issues by escalating them to the Buyer and Materials Manager.
  • Resolve issues related to defective or unsatisfactory goods or services with suppliers.
  • Collaborate with underperforming suppliers to enhance performance or identify alternative suppliers with the Buyer and/or Materials Manager.
  • Prepare purchase orders and quote requests, ensuring all necessary documentation is provided to vendors, including terms and conditions.
  • Present cost-saving initiatives to the Materials Manager.
  • Engage in Continuous Improvement projects and reports that identify profit opportunities.
  • Coordinate with various departments within the plant to fulfill the purchasing needs of the company.
  • Actively participate in new programs or projects related to MRO plant products.
  • Supervise all personnel within the tool crib.
  • Comply with all company policies, including Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental Systems, and Human Resources policies.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

  • Frequent communication with employees, peers, and management.
  • Regular interruptions and distractions.
  • Ability to manage multiple demands in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Exposure to a noisy work environment.
  • Overtime may be required.
  • Work is conducted in both office and plant floor settings.
  • Travel may be necessary.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to occupational safety regulations.
  • Report all accidents and near misses to the Supervisor.
  • Comply with Health and Safety regulations, company rules, and plant policies.
  • Utilize or wear required protective equipment as mandated by the company.
  • Wear all designated Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
