Swim Instructor

Hopedale Medical Complex is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Swim Instructor to join our team. As a Swim Instructor, you will be responsible for providing swim lessons to children of all levels and abilities, teaching them the basic strokes of freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke.
Key Responsibilities- Teaching and Evaluation: Instruct and evaluate students participating in swim lessons, promoting swimmer safety and providing constructive feedback.
- Class Management: Work hours as scheduled, beginning and ending class on time, and remaining after class to answer participant and/or parent questions as needed.
- Emergency Response: Act immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Data Collection: Assist management in gathering data, including keeping attendance and entering the number of total swimming lesson participants for each day into the Tally Sheet binder.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with other aquatics staff to develop optimal strategies for teaching and behavior management.
- Lesson Planning: Lead group and private swimming lessons to participants of all ages and ability levels, using developmentally appropriate and effective techniques.
- Policy Development: Recommend, implement, and communicate policies and procedures related to aquatics within the Wellness Center, ensuring adherence to department, Medical Complex, and third-party safety standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure efficient operation of the Aquatic Fitness Program by notifying appropriate personnel for repairs and maintaining adequate supplies.
- Professional Development: Maintain and improve knowledge of developments in the field by reading appropriate articles and watching videos as assigned by the Aquatics Coordinator, and sharing information with peers as appropriate.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent, or current enrollment in secondary school, is required.
- Certifications: Valid CPR/AED certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire, is required.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with staff, members, and HMC personnel is required.
- Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate swimming techniques, including front crawl, back crawl, breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, individual medley, medley relay, legal turns, and use of a pace clock for training purposes.
- Analytical and Creative Skills: Analytical skills necessary to break complex movements into parts and organize into a logical instructional sequence, and creativity to improvise and innovate new ways of explaining, demonstrating, and coaching.
- Physical Demands: Work requires ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, withstand 3 or more hours in the pool on a daily basis, stand, walk, and kneel for ninety percent of work time, stoop and bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, have manual dexterity, and communicate with other people.
- General Wellness Center Environment: General Wellness Center environment with occasional exposure to infectious material, contagious disease, bodily excretions, and hazardous material.
