Position Overview

The Department of Counseling and School Psychology within the College of Education at California State University is inviting applications for its part-time lecturer pool.

Temporary appointments may be arranged as either full-time or part-time positions. Candidates in the part-time pool may be contacted shortly before the commencement of the academic term, thus applicants should be prepared for immediate availability. The academic terms typically run from mid-August to late-December for Fall, and mid-January to mid-May for Spring. There may also be opportunities for teaching during the Summer Sessions. Initial appointments are generally for one semester or one academic year, with the possibility of renewal based on satisfactory evaluations and ongoing availability of positions. Applications will remain active in our applicant pool throughout the academic year of submission.

  • Experience in university-level teaching
  • Demonstrated expertise in relevant subject matter

Initial rank and salary for lecturer positions are determined based on professional experience and educational qualifications as assessed by the hiring department. Most new hires are appointed at the Lecturer A or B rank and are placed at the beginning of the salary range.

As of July 2023, the salary ranges for the respective ranks are as follows:

Lecturer A: $5,007 - $6,359

Lecturer B: $5,925 - $12,594

Lecturer C: $6,500 - $13,831

Lecturer D: $8,184 - $14,487

In accordance with Education Code 89521, California State University mandates that employment applicants disclose any final administrative or judicial decisions within the past seven years that determined the applicant committed sexual harassment. This requirement specifically applies to those meeting the minimum qualifications for the academic or administrative positions they are applying for. Disclosures should be directed to the Center for the Prevention of Harassment and Discrimination for further review.

As part of its commitment to a safe and equitable community, California State University requires that individuals seeking faculty employment provide authorization for background checks at the time of application if they are selected as finalists for the position; applications lacking this authorization will be deemed incomplete.

The individual in this role is classified as a "mandated reporter" under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and must adhere to the requirements outlined in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

A comprehensive background check (including criminal records) must be satisfactorily completed before any candidate can be offered a position with California State University. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may impact the application status of candidates or the continued employment of current CSU employees applying for the position.
