Job Summary

The Payroll Specialist is a critical role within the GeorgiaGov team, responsible for ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of payroll operations. This position requires a high level of attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage payroll operations, including data entry, processing, and reconciliation.
  • Analyze and audit payroll data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Compute and reconcile balances, making corrections as necessary.
  • Compile statistical reports and statements related to pay and benefits accounts.
  • Process and prepare reports for retirement and health benefits contributions, flexible benefits, payroll deductions, and deferred compensation.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential payroll records.
  • Process and administer third-party requests involving employee pay, such as garnishments, levies, bankruptcies, and child support wage assignments.
  • Act as a liaison between the payroll section and other government agencies, consultants, and outside businesses.
  • Assist in the development and revision of payroll policies and procedures.
  • Complete routine payroll-related forms, such as unemployment certifications, W-2s, W-4s, and stop payment requests.
  • Prepare and submit quarterly and annual reports.
Requirements
  • Associate Degree and three years of payroll or related accounting experience.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret payroll data and statistics.
  • Knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Ability to understand the relationship between payroll and financial systems.
  • Ability to work independently and oversee all payroll-related functions.
  • Knowledge of pay and benefit processes.
  • Knowledge of records retention practices.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • Interpersonal relations and public communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related field.
  • Experience with Teamworks/PeopleSoft Financials & HCM.
Salary and Benefits

The salary range is $60,000 - $65,000, determined by education, experience, and other qualifications. This is a full-time position with paid state holidays, accrued annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Health and Flexible Benefits Program.
