Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Senior Accountant to become a vital part of the City of Charleston's Department of Budget, Finance, and Revenue Collections. In this capacity, you will leverage generally accepted accounting principles to scrutinize financial data and generate comprehensive financial reports.
Key Responsibilities
- Gather and evaluate financial data to create entries for accounts, including general ledger accounts, while documenting business transactions.
- Assess financial information related to assets, liabilities, equities, revenues, and expenditures, and prepare balance sheets, income statements, and other reports to summarize and elucidate the current and anticipated financial status of the City for management.
- Oversee funds and account groups, ensuring they are ready for both internal and external audits.
- Support auditors during the audit process by providing additional information as needed.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies for all assigned funds/accounts.
- Compile data for grants and other reimbursements associated with capital projects.
- Document revenue and expenditures linked to various capital initiatives.
- Utilize computerized accounting systems to manage funds and produce general ledger and accounting reports.
- Engage in special projects as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in accounting or a related discipline, along with two years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.
