Job Overview

PRIMARY ROLE

This position serves as a substitute or versatile role as a Youth Engagement Specialist within our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) Program. The Youth Engagement Specialist (YES) will design, execute, oversee, and assess activities specifically tailored for transitional kindergarten and kindergarten-aged children, focusing on areas such as early childhood education, social recreation, arts & crafts, and physical activities. The main objective is to deliver stimulating, developmentally suitable programming that encourages learning and personal growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Encourage and enhance participation in age-appropriate programs for TK and Kindergarten members.
  • Facilitate the registration of new members and guide their orientation to the organization.
  • Provide supportive guidance and serve as a positive role model.
  • Develop and implement engaging, educational, and recreational programs, services, and activities for young children.
  • Support early literacy and numeracy skills through daily educational games and activities.
  • Maintain attendance records and manage necessary documentation for program operations.
  • Order and manage supplies essential for age-appropriate activities.
  • Address inquiries and concerns from parents and educators.
  • Communicate any program needs or concerns to the Director or Coordinator, including staffing or resource requirements.
  • Prepare weekly and monthly activity schedules tailored for young learners.
  • Maintain logs to track the development and progress of members.
  • Ensure programs are safe, effective, and cater to the developmental needs of members.
  • Monitor and assess the safety and quality of programs and the cleanliness of the facility.
  • Guide children's behavior, maintaining order and reinforcing club and play area rules.
  • Keep the environment organized and clean, ensuring spaces are sanitary and safe.
  • Develop strategies to prevent injuries and respond to accidents.
  • Contribute to a productive work environment by participating in staff meetings focused on early childhood education.

Additional Duties:

  • Engage in special programs and events aimed at early childhood development.
  • May assist with transportation needs for children, including obtaining necessary driving certifications.
  • Support other program areas as needed and take on additional responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED required; ECE units preferred.
  • Experience working with transitional kindergarten and kindergarten-aged children, demonstrating an understanding of their developmental stages and needs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with early childhood educational methods, developmental milestones, and age-appropriate behavior management strategies.
  • High level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality essential for creating a stable and nurturing environment for young children.
  • Ability to provide guidance and structure in educational activities, adapting instructions to meet diverse learning styles.
  • Ability to interpret and execute instructions provided in written, oral, or diagrammatic form; capable of making informed decisions when faced with routine choices.
  • Ability to inspire and engage young children while effectively managing typical behavior issues in early childhood settings.
  • Proficient in interacting with the general public, particularly parents and caregivers, to build trust and communicate effectively about children's progress and needs.
  • Ability to organize activities and supervise young children in a manner that ensures their safety and security.
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid certifications; TB clearance required.
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver's License if responsible for transporting children.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Tasks are regularly performed with moderate exposure to environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, fumes, and temperature and noise extremes.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Tasks involve the ability to exert physical effort, typically involving some combination of standing for extended periods, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, which may include lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50 pounds.
