Position Overview:
The Department of Movement Building at USCJ is integral in launching and executing innovative projects aimed at enhancing the engagement of individuals and families within our community, fortifying the vision and leadership of the movement, and promoting cohesion among essential movement organizations.
The Manager of Special Initiatives is a versatile project management expert, a strong leader, and an effective communicator who plays a pivotal role in ensuring optimal processes and successful results for various projects that align with the growth objectives of the movement. This role encompasses the comprehensive management of all facets of movement-building program initiatives, including scope, scheduling, financial oversight, change management, resource allocation/reporting, and evaluation. The Manager employs strategic planning techniques, drives efficient workflows, leverages data-informed decisions, and advocates for ongoing enhancements.
In accordance with USCJ's collaboration with the Rabbinical Assembly (RA), this position also extends administrative support to the Chief Movement Strategy Officer, particularly in her role as RA's Chief Operating Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Serve as the primary contact for special projects as designated by the Chief Movement Strategy Officer (CMSO).
- Collaborate closely with the CMSO and other members of the Movement Building team, as well as various stakeholders across the organization, to initiate, execute, and successfully complete projects.
- Establish advisory groups for Movement Building, support USCJ's involvement in the Mercaz USA campaign, and cultivate the movement's public policy network.
- Oversee all stages of project management, including:
- Initiation: Define project purpose, scope, and objectives; identify key stakeholders.
- Planning: Develop a comprehensive project plan, outlining activities, tasks, resources, budget, and timeline necessary for project execution.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor budgets effectively.
- Manage project technology platforms (Google Drives, Zoom, and WhatsApp communication channels).
- Delegate tasks as necessary.
- Execution: Collaborate with Committee Chairs, lay leaders, professional staff, and other stakeholders to advance project objectives; ensure expected outcomes are met.
- Anticipate project needs proactively.
- Communicate and collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders to provide necessary information to promote projects and programs.
- Document key decisions and discussions from meetings.
- Monitor project progress to ensure alignment with scheduling, volunteer coordination, communications, and preparation of meeting materials.
- Coordinate and prepare project reports under the supervision of the CMSO.
- Maintain consistent communication with stakeholders.
- Provide operational support for in-person meetings, including logistics, venue coordination, and materials preparation.
- Closure and Evaluation: Complete all project deliverables; assess successes and challenges; document lessons learned.
Administrative Support to Chief Movement Strategy Officer (USCJ) / Chief Operating Officer (RA)
- Schedule, coordinate, and organize complex activities such as meetings, travel, conferences, and events.
- Manage the Chief Operating Officer's (COO) intricate executive-level calendar.
- Handle travel arrangements as necessary (flights, accommodations, etc.).
- Conduct research for significant projects.
- Anticipate the needs of the CMSO/COO and proactively assemble appropriate resources to support them.
- Perform additional duties or assignments as required.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of relevant experience in project management, logistics, or a related field; project management certification is advantageous.
- Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to engage effectively with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
- Outstanding organizational, prioritization, and time management abilities with a proven track record of managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and budget constraints.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to proactively identify and address challenges to ensure project success.
- Meticulous attention to detail while maintaining a broader perspective.
- Demonstrated initiative and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with budgets, contracts, and project management systems.
- Ability to make prompt and appropriate decisions in response to unexpected situations.
- Experience in fast-paced environments with competing deadlines and priorities.
- Strong leadership capabilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively within a team.
- Proficient in Google WorkSpace and Microsoft Suite; adept with Zoom.
- Knowledge of Hebrew is preferred.
- A passion for Jewish life and culture is preferred.
Location:
Hybrid in New York City or remote (availability during Eastern time zone work hours required).
Schedule:
Monday through Friday; occasional evening and weekend work may be necessary.
Travel:
Some travel for meetings may be required.
Salary Range:
$80,000 - $90,000.
