We are seeking to fill the role of Drug Testing Analyzer Technician (NON-EXEMPT).

The Drug Testing Analyzer Technician will be tasked with various responsibilities associated with the collection, processing, reporting, and documentation of urinalysis samples, as well as oral swabs and sweat patches, both on-site and off-site. The Technician will oversee client sample submissions, ensuring the integrity of the chain of custody, and will handle samples, chemicals, and reagents with utmost care at all times. Regular maintenance of the analyzer will also be part of the role. Additional responsibilities include managing inventory and placing orders for necessary reagents, calibrators, and supplies, as well as collaborating with contractors to resolve any issues. This position will also handle the majority of contested urine drug screen results and provide updates to the requesting parties. Technicians may also conduct breathalyzer tests as required.

The Technician will communicate any unusual incidents to the client's case manager or program supervisor, including but not limited to positive breath alcohol results, adulterated urine samples, or any disturbances. Teamwork and customer service support for clients and colleagues are essential components of this role.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Generate accurate labels for clients preparing to submit urine samples.
  2. Guide clients through agency procedures for urine sample submission and ensure compliance.
  3. Monitor and observe the submission of urine samples by clients.
  4. Maintain the chain of custody for urine samples, ensuring proper documentation by clients.
  5. Administer and document breathalyzer tests and results when necessary.
  6. Inform clients of additional responsibilities, such as case management contacts and verification requirements.
  7. Notify the client's case manager or program supervisor of any unusual occurrences, including positive breath alcohol results or disturbances.
  8. Prepare samples for delivery to the laboratory's courier service.
  9. Ensure adequate inventory levels for required urine collection samples.
  10. Adhere to universal precautions when handling urine samples.
  11. Analyzer Duties:
    1. Handle chemicals and reagents properly.
    2. Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance procedures.
    3. Manage inventory and order necessary reagents, calibrators, and supplies.
    4. Ensure compliance with chain of custody protocols.

Other responsibilities may be assigned as needed.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  1. High School diploma or equivalent.
  2. Understanding of issues related to addiction and recovery.
  3. Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  4. Excellent attendance and self-motivation.
  5. Attention to detail and clarity in communication.

Complexity of Role:

This position involves providing agency-based services to clients. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and creativity are essential for delivering support services that address the complex needs of clients.

Personal Interactions:

Interactions primarily occur with treatment team members, clients, and their significant others or family members, all conducted in accordance with federal and state confidentiality laws.

Physical Requirements:

Most tasks can be performed while sitting, standing, or walking.

Work Environment:

Work hours are typically spent indoors in office settings or meeting rooms, with occasional outdoor supervision, community agency visits, and participation in staff development activities.
