Substance Analysis Technician

We are seeking to fill the role of Drug Testing Analyzer Technician.
The Drug Testing Analyzer Technician plays a crucial role in the collection, processing, reporting, and documentation of urinalysis samples, including oral swabs and sweat patches, both on-site and off-site. This position involves monitoring client sample submissions, ensuring the integrity of the chain of custody, and maintaining proper handling of samples, chemicals, and reagents used in testing. Additionally, the Technician will perform routine maintenance on the analyzer and manage inventory, including ordering necessary reagents and supplies. The role also encompasses processing contested urine drug screen results and providing updates to the requesting parties. Technicians may also be required to conduct breathalyzer tests as necessary.
The Technician will communicate any unusual occurrences to the client's case manager or program supervisor, including but not limited to positive breath alcohol results, adulterated urine samples, or any disturbances. Collaboration with the team is essential to provide excellent customer service to clients and support fellow team members.
Key Responsibilities:
- Generate accurate labels for clients preparing to submit urine samples.
- Guide clients through agency procedures for urine sample submission, ensuring compliance.
- Observe and monitor the submission of urine samples by clients.
- Maintain the chain of custody for urine samples, ensuring all documentation is completed by the client.
- Administer and document breathalyzer tests and results when applicable.
- Inform clients of additional responsibilities, including case management contacts and verification requirements.
- Notify the client's case manager or program supervisor of any unusual incidents, such as positive breath alcohol results or sample adulteration.
- Prepare samples for transport to the laboratory's courier.
- Ensure adequate levels of required samples for urine collection.
- Adhere to universal precautions when handling urine samples.
- Analyzer Maintenance:
- Handle chemicals and reagents properly.
- Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance on the analyzer.
- Manage inventory and order necessary reagents and supplies.
- Ensure compliance with chain of custody protocols.
12. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Understanding of issues related to addiction and recovery.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent attendance and self-motivation.
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- High attention to detail.
Complexity of Role:
This position involves providing agency-based services to clients. Strong communication skills, sound judgment, and creativity are essential to implement and deliver support services that address the complex needs of clients.
Personal Interactions:
Interactions primarily occur with treatment team members, clients, and their significant others or family members, all conducted in accordance with federal and state confidentiality laws.
Physical Requirements:
Most tasks can be performed while sitting, standing, or walking.
Work Environment:
Work hours are primarily indoors in office settings or meeting rooms, with some outdoor supervision and participation in community activities and staff development events required.
