Job Title: Director, BARDA Alliance

Johnson & Johnson is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the BLUE KNIGHT initiative, a joint collaboration between JLABS and the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA). The successful candidate will be responsible for setting the strategic direction of the initiative, managing a portfolio of companies, and overseeing operational activities related to the collaboration with BARDA.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain strong relationships with BARDA stakeholders and ensure consistent engagement with their technical and contractual representatives.
  • Lead the strategy, operational, and logistical activities to deliver business objectives, including space fulfillment performance measures, portfolio development, and innovation activation.
  • Develop and manage educational programming calendars and deliver programs to ensure stakeholder engagement and success.
  • Represent BLUE KNIGHT at external engagements, conferences, and hosted programs.
  • Source and select high-potential companies and manage internal and external stakeholders engaged in the selection process.
  • Engage with start-up companies globally and serve as an advisor and scout for opportunities for J&J to partner directly with companies.
  • Build relationships with Venture Capital, Angel Funds, Government Agencies, and other non-dilutive funders to create opportunities for them to engage with BLUE KNIGHT companies.
  • Drive internal collaboration with J&J sectors, including Innovative Medicine, MedTech, and other internal capabilities.
  • Manage a portfolio of resident companies and network them across internal and external networks and channels.
  • Lead the future vision for the initiative and manage financial forecasts, reporting, budget, and invoicing in alignment with contractual requirements and annual US government appropriations needs.
Requirements:
  • Deep experience and understanding of the infectious disease, global public health, and/or pharma industries.
  • Working knowledge of government agencies, government funding, and reporting obligations.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in senior program management.
  • Knowledge in Public Health and/or BARDA areas of strategic interest (CBRN, pandemic preparedness, emerging infectious diseases) required.
  • At least 6 years of relevant professional experience in the healthcare industry required.
  • Experience in program budgeting and fiscal management, business development, technology transfer, management consulting, and/or venture capital investing required.
  • Experience working with government agencies and government funding and reporting requirements required.
  • Experience in the evaluation and execution of a diverse set of business development opportunities required.
  • Strong people leader and cultivator of talent.
  • Demonstrated adaptability to work across functions and therapeutic areas.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time.
