Job Summary

Boston Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner to join our team as a Medical Matron. This is a full-time position that requires a Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN) and Massachusetts licensure as an Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough psychiatric assessments, including risk assessment and reviewing past medical history
  • Perform medication reconciliation, reviewing prior medication trials, and prescribing medications as appropriate, ensuring safety and efficacy in the emergency setting
  • Coordinate with social work team to conduct treatment planning and recommendations for level of care decision making
  • Recommend observation levels, create and implement agitation plans, and obtain collateral information for patients boarding in the emergency department
  • Attend morning rounds, as representative of the ED Psychiatry team, with the medical team and charge nurse to review and coordinate plans for patients boarding in the emergency department
  • Attend EPS team meetings
  • Support the nursing staff, the medical team, and the Behavioral Response Team in treating ED patients with acute agitation and unsafe behaviors using both pharmacological and non-pharmacological de-escalation techniques
  • Collaborate with supervising physician and social work to ensure appropriate disposition and continuity of care as well as contacting collaterals upon discharge/transfer
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation
  • Ensure compliance with ethical principles, confidentiality laws, and regulations governing psychiatric healthcare
Requirements
  • Master of Science Degree in Nursing (MSN)
  • Massachusetts licensure as Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse
  • ANCC certification as a Psychiatric NP or CNS
  • At least 1 year of professional experience performing psychiatric evaluations and psychopharmacology services
