Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Recreation Program Assistant to join our team at the Ak-Chin Indian Community. The successful candidate will assist with planning and coordinating a variety of recreation/sports programs, services, and activities for our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in planning, organizing, leading, and coordinating recreation/sports programs, activities, and events.
  • Develop and distribute promotional materials to increase participation and attendance in recreation/sports programs, activities, and events.
  • Assess the recreational needs of community members and develop, evaluate, and recommend activities/programs to meet these needs.
  • Monitor programs and activities for members, ensuring a safe and healthy atmosphere for participants.
  • Prepare periodic reports and data on program activities and status.
  • Perform administrative support activities for the Recreation Program Coordinator.
  • Transport participants and act as chaperone during recreation/sports programs, field trips, special events, and other related functions.
  • Work closely with various individuals, groups, agencies, departments, and community organizations to coordinate and organize special and annual community events and celebrations.
  • Collect enrollment forms, program, and special event registrations in the various recreation/sports programs as required.
  • Coach teams and officiate games as needed.
  • Attend training as needed.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of general adult/youth recreation programs, services, and activities.
  • Knowledge of general parks and recreation department operating policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of general sports/recreation program development principles and practices.
  • Knowledge of general clerical/office support practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of basic volunteer training and supervision principles and practices.
  • Skill in planning, organizing, and coordinating a variety of recreation/sports programs, activities, and events.
  • Skill in performing a variety of clerical/office support work, including typing, filing, photocopying, and inputting data into computerized databases.
  • Ability to chaperone program participants in a safe and structured fashion.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both orally and in writing) with staff, other employees, and the general public in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Ability to understand and follow routine and written instructions.
