Description


The Production Line Technician 2 plays a crucial role in the manufacturing process, overseeing the fundamental operations of the extrusion lines while also contributing to the training of new team members.

As they enhance their expertise by mastering various production lines, the Production Line Technician 2 aims to deepen their understanding of quality benchmarks.

This position requires adherence to all protocols necessary for the safe and efficient functioning of the production line, operating within established guidelines and company policies.


RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Executes fundamental production tasks such as loading cores onto the core table, managing trim removal, adjusting roll widths, and preparing the final product by pulling, lifting, labeling, and packaging the completed stretch film rolls. Inspects the visual quality of the rolls and discards those that do not meet set quality criteria. Gains a comprehensive understanding of roll weight computer systems to accurately weigh rolls and/or boxes of finished products, documenting completed products as required, and preparing scrap bins for recycling.
  • Prepares products for dispatch by organizing skids with necessary packaging materials and packing trays or boxes with finished rolls. Manually pre-wraps trays with stretch film before sending them to the automated wrapper or wraps them by hand as per plant procedures, effectively moving completed skids using manual and electric pallet jacks.
  • May begin training on and performing tasks across various lines, rewinders, and other essential areas of the production floor to broaden knowledge and meet staffing requirements.
  • Trains on quality standards and controls, may start training to conduct quality testing and complete tasks in the quality lab, including Shift Testing; accurately completing quality control documentation following established standards and reporting quality test outcomes to Management to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Aids in maintaining continuous line operation, coordinating shift change activities, and informing Senior Operators, the Team Manager, or other Management of any operational issues.
  • Assists in training new Production Line Technicians when assigned to the production line.
  • Maintains cleanliness on the line to ensure a tidy work environment; prepares the workspace for shift changes.
  • Performs any additional duties as assigned by Management.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE/SKILL/ABILITY

  • Proven proficiency in the responsibilities of previous Line Operator roles.
  • Technical understanding of machinery and systems within a manufacturing setting.
  • Mechanical skills to effectively use basic hand tools with precision.
  • Ability to accurately utilize scales, weights, and other measurement instruments.
  • Demonstrates sound judgment while adapting to a dynamic environment and rapid changes.
  • Capable of managing multiple tasks and addressing unexpected delays while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational capabilities combined with effective problem-solving skills.
  • Promotes teamwork within the organization.
  • High level of reliability regarding attendance and punctuality.
  • Proficient in communicating in English, both written and spoken.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in an environment that generates static electricity which may interfere with certain medical devices.
  • Ability to utilize near, far, and peripheral vision and depth perception for the tasks performed.
  • Ability to use hands, including fingers, to hold, touch, see, feel, grip, squeeze, push, and pull.
  • Ability to perform pushing, pulling, and forward exertion regularly.
  • Ability to extend arms overhead regularly.
  • Ability to demonstrate enhanced manual dexterity with arms and hands to operate industrial power tools occasionally.
  • Ability to stand and walk continuously on a concrete floor for 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to stand, crouch, stoop, bend, and squat frequently.
  • Ability to kneel occasionally.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders occasionally.
  • Ability to work on elevated platforms.
  • Ability to navigate uneven surfaces occasionally.
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or move between 45-55 lbs.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 lbs.
  • Ability to understand and communicate verbally, in person, and over a paging system.
  • Ability to meet requirements of and utilize all PPE when required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience in a plastics manufacturing environment preferred.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The environment described here is representative of those an employee would typically encounter while performing the essential functions of the job. The physical environment requires the employee to work indoors in a hot or cold and moderately loud setting. PPE is required while performing job functions.
