Job Summary

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Highway Maintenance Worker III: Specialty Crew Leader to join our team. As a key member of our maintenance operations team, you will be responsible for leading a crew of skilled workers in the construction, repair, and preservation of roads and bridges on the state highway system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a crew of skilled workers in the performance of manual labor and operation of heavy equipment, including cranes, crawlers, and boom trucks.
  • Ensure the accuracy of data inputs and reports in the maintenance data management system.
  • Control stock inventory of repair materials and maintain assigned equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations, including the use of personal protective equipment and proper disposal of hazardous materials.
  • Manage crew members in emergency and inclement weather operations, including extended working hours or 12-hour shifts.
  • Assist in the coordination of traffic control devices and ensure proper setup of maintenance work zones.

Requirements

  • Two and one-half (2.5) years of related work experience or an approved acceptable equivalence.
  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license and attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to outside weather conditions.
