Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Transportation Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the South Carolina Department of Transportation. In this role, you will be responsible for performing various transportation maintenance tasks, including operating small motorized equipment, performing traffic control operations, and assisting in emergency and inclement weather operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Operate small motorized equipment on the Hot Crew, including asphalt kettles, concrete mixers, dump trucks, forklifts, rollers, snow plows, spreaders, sweepers, self-contained tractors, and tractors with brooms and mowers.
  • Perform traffic control operations for work zones, including flagging traffic for the safety of the crew and the public.
  • Operate and perform basic maintenance on electric and gas-powered tools.
  • Assist in emergency and inclement weather operations, including being on call for after-hour emergencies.

Requirements:

  • A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
  • Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six months of placement in the position.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping, and manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. You must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing situations.
