The Team:

The Portfolio Valuations & Monitoring team operates globally across key financial hubs and provides Senior Management with real-time analytics and strategic valuation insights for portfolio companies. The team frequently collaborates with senior executives at portfolio firms to review critical performance metrics.

Position Overview:

SoftBank Investment Advisers is on the lookout for a motivated and seasoned Vice President of Portfolio Valuations to enhance our Finance team. This role is available in various international offices.

This position offers a distinctive opportunity to deliver valuation expertise within a vibrant corporate venture capital setting. You will collaborate closely with a forward-thinking senior management team on strategic investments, performance assessments, and the valuation of our investments, with a primary focus on growth-stage, top-tier technology firms.

The Vice President of Portfolio Valuations will take the lead in determining the fair value of investments for quarterly financial disclosures. Furthermore, this role will involve identifying and reporting on trends in portfolio performance; developing tools and processes to keep Senior Management informed about portfolio company performance; providing ad-hoc support for strategic initiatives; and utilizing technology to enhance efficiency. The position will also support investor reporting, regulatory compliance, and various data requests from key stakeholders. This role reports directly to the Director of Portfolio Valuations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and maintain valuation models in line with SBIA's global valuation standards, primarily utilizing Anaplan.
  • Monitor and evaluate the investment performance of assigned assets, providing analytical support to assist SBIA Senior Management in decision-making.
  • Proactively track current business, industry, and economic trends that may influence Fund performance.
  • Prepare, disseminate, and present data-driven portfolio-level analytics to SBIA Senior Management.
  • Prepare, review, and discuss materials as part of the Investment Risk-led Portfolio Review process.
  • Develop and maintain the Fund's proprietary technology platforms (e.g., FinSight, Anaplan), focusing on automation and operational excellence.
  • Foster strong relationships with portfolio company executives, Investment Professionals, and Senior Management.
  • Manage Limited Partner relationships by providing regular updates on Fund performance and other commercial insights.
  • Evaluate pipeline companies and conduct financial due diligence for prospective investments.
  • Provide ad hoc support to investment teams regarding assigned investments and complex securities.
  • Prepare and distribute reports/analysis in accordance with critical fund and investor reporting timelines.
  • Support the year-end financial statement audit and any statutory audits, addressing follow-up inquiries from internal or external auditors related to portfolio valuations.

Required Qualifications/Skills:

  • BA/BSc/MSc with honors in Finance, Economics, or a related quantitative discipline from a top-tier university.
  • Experience in Investment Banking, Big 4 Transaction Services, or Private Equity valuation is highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in building, testing, and implementing valuation models.
  • In-depth understanding of theoretical and applied finance, including the associated mathematical frameworks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to engage confidently with Investment Professionals, Portfolio Companies, and Senior Management.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficient in MS PowerPoint and MS Excel; familiarity with Bloomberg, Capital IQ, VBA, Anaplan, and PowerBI is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, demanding, and dynamic environment.
  • CFA or CPA/ACA designation is preferred but not essential.
