Role Overview: Safety Compliance Coordinator

We are seeking a Safety Compliance Coordinator for our Mid-Atlantic Division. This role will involve supporting multiple states, including MD, DC, VA, and DE, and will require significant travel, up to 80% of the time.

This position will assist in gathering and analyzing data as directed by the Safety Compliance Lead. You will collaborate closely with field operations teams to coach, manage, and evaluate store safety protocols.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervise all safety initiatives within the designated area. Conduct unscheduled Safety Surveys and Policy Reviews (SSPR) across all division stores, with a focus on priority locations. Discuss findings with Division Staff and provide support to rectify any identified issues. Propose corrective actions to the District Manager for approval. Foster open communication channels, encouraging store and division personnel to share innovative ideas, suggestions, and concerns, and assess each for relevance and necessary follow-up. Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety and health regulations (OSHA), covering areas such as General Industry Safety Orders, Uniform Fire Code, Life Safety Code, Employee Right-to-Know, Community Right-to-Know, Hazardous Waste Disposal, Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Truck (PIT), Emergency Evacuation, Ergonomics, and OSHA Recordkeeping. Review Safety Tracking tools to monitor and evaluate safety performance, identifying areas for improvement and collaborating with District Managers to address specific safety training, safety committees, accident investigations, floor maintenance, and on-site safety assessments. Oversee the training of new associates regarding safety policies and procedures. Assess the need for additional or refresher training based on new risks, repeated incidents, and return-to-work scenarios following workplace injuries. Facilitate group training sessions as necessary to cover relevant topics. Manage store accident reporting and investigation processes, providing guidance as needed. Collaborate with Associate Relations to recommend disciplinary measures for personnel responsible for serious safety or recordkeeping violations. Supervise store safety committee activities to ensure meetings are productive and effective. Provide training as required. Participate in meetings with store directors and departments, career advancement training, Risk Management continuing education, claim reviews, and individual store safety committee gatherings. Public speaking to diverse groups is also a requirement.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Educational Background:

Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field or equivalent professional experience.

Skills & Experience:

3-5 years of experience in grocery retail, with a background in safety, loss control, or claims preferred. Previous experience in training and auditing is advantageous. Familiarity with Federal Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHA) is preferred. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work may take place in a climate-controlled setting. The role requires prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking. Extended time may be spent at a desk or computer terminal. Use of calculators, keyboards, telephones, and other office equipment is part of the daily routine. Tasks may involve stooping, bending, twisting, and reaching. The work environment is fast-paced, with potential evening and weekend commitments. This position necessitates regular travel to various store locations within the division. The incumbent must have reliable transportation and be prepared for overnight travel. The ability to navigate stores, including second-story offices, back rooms, and production areas, is required. Analytical skills and mental alertness are necessary for accurate and thorough completion of tasks, as well as for data interpretation and analysis. The ability to maintain focus amidst frequent interruptions is crucial.

Travel Expectations: Division-wide travel, up to 80%
