Senior Payroll Specialist

BEI Construction is seeking a highly skilled Senior Payroll Specialist to join our corporate office in Alameda, CA. This role will provide senior-level support to the payroll department and report directly to our Payroll Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Process full-cycle payroll, including weekly timecard review and upload, accurate and timely processing of weekly multi-state payroll, preparation and distribution of checks, and processing of deductions, union dues, and rate adjustments
- Review and respond to verification of employment requests and local and state government notices and claims in a timely manner
- Collaborate with the HR team to ensure proper processing of paperwork for new hires, terminations, employee status changes, and leave of absences
- Ensure compliance with payroll-related regulations and reporting requirements, including prevailing wage, tax deposits, and quarterly and annual tax filings
- Process 401(k) remittance and requests
- Respond to payroll inquiries and requests in a timely manner
- Perform payroll audits, including union, workers compensation, 401(k), etc.
- Process certified payroll
- Maintain accurate and proper safekeeping of payroll-related files
- Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
- 5-7 years' experience in a union construction company required, IBEW union experience preferred
- Certified Payroll Professional certification strongly preferred
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and payroll software, Viewpoint ProContractor experience strongly preferred
- Ability to work independently and proactively
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and prioritization skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
