Support Services Specialist

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Support Services Specialist plays a crucial role in delivering professional assistance and guidance to individuals with disabilities, facilitating their training and support in various settings, including residential and community environments. This role aims to empower individuals by enhancing their skills and fostering meaningful connections within their communities.
Flexibility in work locations is essential, as the Specialist may be required to adapt to different environments. Work hours will be tailored to meet the specific needs of individuals, which may encompass evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays. Participation in ongoing training sessions is mandatory to ensure the Specialist remains knowledgeable and capable of providing high-quality support.
COMPENSATION INCENTIVES AVAILABLE
WORK SCHEDULE
We are seeking full-time candidates, offering both 30 and 40-hour workweek options. The position allows for flexible scheduling, with opportunities to create a personalized work routine. Shifts may include daytime, evening, weekend, and overnight hours, with potential for overtime.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate engaging daily activities for individuals by delivering tailored training and support based on their unique needs and aspirations.
- Participate in collaborative team meetings to ensure that the training and support provided align with the individual's goals and preferences.
- Collaborate with individuals, their families, and team members to identify desired outcomes, including involvement in assessments and evaluations as recommended by the planning team.
- Design training programs and maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports to ensure accountability and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Regularly assess training programs to promote personal development and ensure progress, making adjustments as necessary.
- Act as a positive role model and mentor, guiding individuals in areas such as social skills, personal hygiene, and grooming through teachable moments.
- Work collaboratively with consultants, supervisors, and other staff to meet the needs of individuals effectively.
- Instruct and enforce safety protocols in accordance with applicable laws and organizational policies.
- Maintain a flexible work schedule to accommodate the training and support needs of individuals.
- Assist individuals in meeting their dietary and nutritional requirements.
- Obtain certification as a Medication Aide if necessary, adhering to all relevant laws and regulations regarding medication administration.
- Provide supervision and training in various community settings to enhance individuals' social roles.
- Support individuals in improving their community presence by assisting with personal appearance and hygiene.
- Facilitate transportation and support to enhance community access skills.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance job performance.
- Assist individuals in managing personal finances in strict accordance with organizational procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to fulfill the needs of Region V Services.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of training methodologies for individuals with developmental disabilities is advantageous.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals with special needs, including personal care and hygiene.
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills.
- Capacity to meet the physical demands of the service environment.
- Ability to lift individuals or utilize adaptive equipment as required.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Willingness to accept guidance and complete assigned tasks.
- Ability to identify and communicate situations that require supervisory input.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
- Preferred: One year of experience in human services or a related field.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Valid driver's license or reliable transportation.
- Reliable means of communication (e.g., phone).
- Subject to background checks and may require drug and alcohol screening.
