Job Overview

Position Title: Police Officer

Department Overview: The City of Auburn Hills Police Department (AHPD) is dedicated to delivering top-tier law enforcement services to our community, including residents, businesses, students, and visitors. In 2019, AHPD achieved voluntary accreditation, a recognition earned by only 19 police agencies out of over 400 in Michigan. This accreditation reflects our commitment to meeting and exceeding established best practices in law enforcement.

AHPD responds to approximately 30,000 service calls each year, covering a jurisdiction of 16.64 square miles with a population exceeding 25,000. Our department emphasizes a community-oriented policing approach, fostering regular interactions with community members, conducting training sessions, and offering a diverse range of law enforcement programs. Our mission is to enhance safety and quality of life in our community through a comprehensive array of traditional and innovative services while upholding constitutional and human rights. All personnel are held accountable for their actions at all times.

Core Responsibilities: The Police Officer is responsible for performing various law enforcement duties, including patrol, investigations, traffic management, and other related activities.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of employment.
  • Completion of or enrollment in a MCOLES-certified training academy is required.
  • A valid State driver's license is necessary or must be obtainable by the time of hire.
  • No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Proficiency in reading and writing the English language is required.
  • Must demonstrate good moral character and maintain industrious habits.
  • An Associate's degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor's degree is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with contemporary law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, and equipment is essential.
  • Ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and departmental regulations; perform physically demanding tasks; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; build effective working relationships with colleagues; exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations; follow instructions; and learn the geography of the area.

Compensation: The salary range is $56, $83,928, contingent upon qualifications. Lateral pay is determined by the Police Chief. For a summary of benefits, please refer to the relevant documentation.
