We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Power Engineer to join our team in Washington D.C. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in power systems engineering, with a focus on planning, designing, and implementing power infrastructure projects.

About the Role

The Senior Power Engineer will provide technical leadership and support to the Unit's operations, including cross-border infrastructure projects, and investments and advisory services to help advance the regional power market of the WAPP. The role will also involve providing technical support and advice on the preparation and supervision of technical assistance and infrastructure projects geared towards the expansion and digitalization of power generation, transmission, and distribution segments in West African countries.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to the Bank's engagement in the WAPP region, and in particular programs/projects/advisory services and technical assistance supporting the development and operation of the regional power system.
  • Help define and implement the next phase of assistance to the WAPP, and in particular assess gaps, identify priorities, and provide supervision of the Bank's activities related to the update of the Regional Master Plan and identification of priority regional infrastructure projects.
  • Lead analysis and other technical tasks related to the preparation and implementation of transmission/generation projects at the country and regional level, covering the core elements of electrical planning, feasibility, engineering, implementation, operation, and maintenance.
  • Provide advice to clients on power system planning, and on design, procurement, and construction aspects of generation and transmission investments.
  • Design, lead, and/or contribute to studies related to power transmission systems, including planning, expansion, and rehabilitation, and transmission status monitoring.
Requirements
  • Master's degree or equivalent in power engineering and/or related technical fields relevant for the power sector.
  • Deep technical knowledge of the power systems, especially in matters related to planning, construction, and operation of power generation plants and transmission systems.
  • At least 8 years of relevant energy sector experience, and notably in planning, designing, and implementing power infrastructure projects, including gas-to-power and RE generation, power transmission and distribution, and on-grid and off-grid electrification.
  • Recognized and extensive track record in providing technical leadership for the preparation/execution of complex infrastructure projects.
