Position Overview

The Practical Nurse plays a crucial role within the multidisciplinary healthcare team, providing essential support in patient care that encompasses the administration of treatments and medications, patient education, triage, and facilitating clinic operations. The LPN is expected to operate within the parameters set forth by the Mississippi Board of Nursing.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with clinical protocols and practices.
  • Effective communication skills for interactions with patients, healthcare providers, colleagues, and the public.
  • Strong time management capabilities.
  • Ability to organize medical supplies and resources efficiently.
  • Competence in following and delivering both verbal and written instructions.
  • Understanding of HIPAA regulations and the importance of maintaining confidentiality for patient and staff information.
  • Physical capability to sit, stand, bend, lift, and move throughout the workday as required.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of an accredited nursing program and possess a valid nursing license in Mississippi or a compact licensure state. TB certification must be obtained within 90 days of employment. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are necessary. Candidates should exhibit leadership qualities and a compassionate approach to patient care. Experience in primary care, community health, or similar environments is preferred but not mandatory. Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively are essential.

Core Competencies
  • Collects patient information in alignment with current operational workflows.
  • Assists healthcare providers during examinations and treatment procedures as needed.
  • Processes provider orders in accordance with established policies promptly.
  • Ensures the collection of properly completed consent forms and other necessary documentation.
  • Conducts vision and hearing assessments, EKGs, injections, immunizations, and other nursing tasks.
  • Supports laboratory activities as directed by the Practice Manager or Director of Nursing.
  • Maintains accurate files, records, and logs.
  • Documents patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) accurately and completely, updating other necessary platforms as required.
  • Ensures examination rooms and workspaces are well-prepared and stocked with adequate supplies.
  • Acts as an advocate for patients and their families.
  • Provides education to patients and their families regarding care as appropriate.
  • Handles requests for information and services through both phone and in-person triage, documenting interactions in the EHR.
  • Maintains professional interactions with patients, providers, colleagues, and the public.
  • Communicates effectively with the Practice Manager and/or Director of Nursing regarding status, progress, and needs.
  • Regularly assesses the safety of patients, staff, and the facility, reporting any concerns to the Practice Manager and/or Director of Nursing.
  • Participates in performance improvement initiatives and adheres to relevant policies.
  • May experience frequent interruptions during work hours.
  • Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, in various specialties, or at different locations as necessary.
  • Performs additional duties as required.
  • Adheres to and enforces the Core Principles and Code of Conduct.
