Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Sterile Processing Technician to join our team at Tennessee Orthopaedic Clinics. As a Sterile Processing Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of patient care by processing, maintaining, and organizing instruments, equipment, and supplies used in surgery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process instruments according to policy, ensuring sterility and cleanliness at all times, documenting as required
  • Organize sets according to instrument list; dates and signs as indicated
  • Maintain set lists and updates as determined by Clinical Manager
  • Manage the flow of instruments in the instrument rooms (clean, dirty, and storage) under the Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Ensure daily and weekly cleaning of sterilizers and washer-sterilizer
  • Operate autoclave, washer-sterilizer any other equipment necessary to process instruments
  • Report any malfunctioning equipment or instruments immediately to Clinical Nurse manager
  • Ensure that items necessary for surgery are sterilized and available for use in a timely manner
  • Keep abreast of the flow of cases and needs of the surgeon and staff while surgeries are in process and organize work accordingly
  • Assist with O.R. turnovers as needed and able
  • Follow protocol for decontamination of instruments and sets according to policy
  • Manage the utilization and disposal of contaminated waste; ensure that biohazardous waste is boxed and handled according to protocol
  • Assist Clinical Nurse Manager with inventory specific to the Central area. Identify needs and list items for Clinical Nurse Manager
  • May assist in the operating room for cleaning, prepping, turn over or assistance during a case as needed
  • Maintain sterilization records according to established procedure
  • Responsible for ensuring all appropriate biological tests are completed daily on flash sterilizers and Steris units
  • Ensure flash records are completed and reports problematic areas to the Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Assist with obtaining special instruments, sets and equipment as necessary from off-site
  • Follow special requests to assist others as determined by Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Practice constructive interpersonal communication skills
  • Conform to all rules and regulations governing the operating room and its functions
  • Maintain all equipment and instrumentation, ensuring adequate function and operation
  • Assist in arrangement for repairs as delegated by Clinical Nurse Manager
  • Assist with pulling of cases as needed
  • Maintain the Sterile Processing area, put sets away and ensure that the area is neat and organized
  • Assist with tracking equipment and instruments that have been loaned or borrowed
  • Perform all other duties assigned
