Key Responsibilities:The responsibilities include conducting NC State Inspections, performing fluid changes for various engine types, executing preventative maintenance services, and lubricating a wide range of vehicles and equipment. Additional tasks may involve belt replacements, inspecting and changing brake pads and shoes, charging and replacing batteries, and repairing tires. Administrative duties encompass data entry into the work order system and managing invoices through scanning and filing. The technician must effectively follow directions provided by the supervisor.
Collaboration and Support:This position will assist the supervisor in diagnosing, repairing, and rebuilding various mechanical systems for a range of gasoline, diesel, and alternative fuel engines and equipment. Adherence to established operational guidelines and safety protocols is mandatory. Work assignments are typically communicated through written or verbal work orders, with new or complex tasks accompanied by detailed instructions. The work is performed under general supervision and may be subject to review during or after completion.
Department Information:This position is situated within the Budget and Finance Division, specifically under Campus Operations.
Employment Type:This is a full-time position, requiring a commitment of 12 months per year.
Qualifications:A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a clean driving record and a valid NC license. Candidates should possess the competencies necessary to perform the job effectively.
Preferred Qualifications:Preferred candidates will have at least two years of experience or a combination of education and experience in preventative maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and repair. Experience with the following is advantageous:
- Small engines, including two and four-stroke engines and large commercial mowers.
- Heavy equipment such as tractors and backhoes.
- Domestic and foreign manufactured vehicles.
- Knowledge of various mechanical systems, including:
- Emergency generators.
- Hydraulic systems and lifts.
- Alternative powered vehicles and equipment.
- Utility ATVs.
- Snow removal equipment.
The ideal candidate will also hold a State Inspection License and demonstrate a willingness to participate in training for new equipment as needed.
Work Schedule:The typical work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend work required to fulfill departmental needs.
