OVERVIEW
The Mathematics Department at California State University is seeking applications for a pool of adjunct faculty members. These positions are contingent upon departmental needs during the academic year, specifically in the Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. The rank and compensation will be aligned with the applicant's qualifications and experience. Responsibilities typically encompass teaching foundational mathematics courses, including but not limited to Precalculus Algebra, Precalculus Trigonometry, Calculus I, II, III, and various specialized calculus courses.
COMPENSATION STRUCTURE
Initial rank and salary for adjunct faculty will be determined based on professional experience and educational credentials. Most new hires will be classified as Lecturer A or B. The salary ranges as of July 2023 are as follows:
Lecturer A: $5,007-$6,359
Lecturer B: $5,925-$12,594
Lecturer C: $6,500-$13,831
Lecturer D: $8,184-$14,487

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Master's degree in Mathematics or a closely related field such as Physical Science or Engineering.
- Doctoral degree in Mathematics or a closely related discipline.
- Experience in teaching mathematics at the collegiate level, particularly in Calculus and Differential Equations.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Upon receiving a conditional offer of employment, candidates must successfully complete a background check, including a criminal records check. The position is classified as sensitive, requiring adherence to specific regulations.
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Mathematics Department provides a comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate mathematics courses. With approximately 175 sections offered each quarter and an average enrollment of 35 students per class, the department consists of around 32 permanent faculty, 20 temporary faculty, and 15 graduate teaching associates.
