Position Summary

The Project Manager for Survey Operations is dedicated to overseeing the management of surveying projects, personnel, and client relationships. This role requires a proven track record in land surveying, project oversight, and effective leadership, along with exceptional client interaction skills.

The Project Manager is accountable for the successful execution of assigned surveying projects, which encompasses financial oversight of project budgets, adherence to timelines, addressing client requirements, coordinating with field teams and CAD Technicians, and ensuring thorough research and processing of all survey elements and deliverables. Additionally, this role involves managing the overall quality assurance and quality control processes for surveys and supporting documentation, ensuring that all resources are effectively utilized to meet client expectations.

This position also emphasizes the importance of mentoring Field Crews and CAD Technicians in project management practices. The individual will demonstrate strong management capabilities both within the organization and in public interactions. Continuous mentorship from Survey Team Leaders is encouraged to enhance skills in project, employee, and client management.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution is required.

Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in a surveying firm, with at least three years in a managerial capacity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all responsibilities of a Survey Crew Chief and CAD Technician.
  • Assist in gathering field data as needed.
  • Engage directly with clients, contractors, and regulatory agencies to deliver high-quality surveys.
  • Identify and propose solutions for challenges encountered in the field.
  • Develop and maintain project schedules.
  • Manage client expectations regarding project requirements, deliverables, and timelines.
  • Prepare project tracking documents and monitor workload and performance across the survey team.
  • Oversee all aspects of multiple projects, including client relations and resource management.
  • Prepare and review invoices for client billing.
  • Mentor junior survey department staff.
  • Prepare ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys.
  • Participate in business development activities to enhance the firm's visibility in the community.
  • Demonstrate effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Manage QA/QC reviews for all surveys prior to submission.
  • Provide clear direction to the survey team regarding project tasks.
  • Utilize sound judgment in survey-related decisions.

Desired Skills

  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying Exam (FS).
  • Progress towards Land Surveyor-in-Training (LSIT) certification.
  • Basic understanding of project proposals, including scope, budget, and scheduling.
  • Ability to collaborate with external consultants such as civil engineers and architects.
  • Strong client engagement and business development skills.
  • Capability to perform QA/QC reviews on surveys.
  • Experience in managing tasks for CAD Technicians and Field Crews.
